NEWAY(REFAM) was created to help Syrian refugees fleeing the war to Türkiye(Turkey) in 2016 at the height of the Syrian civil war.
The Syrian civil war occurred at the end of 2010, mainly in the Middle East and North Africa, under the influence of the so-called 'Arab Spring' in protest against the dictatorship. In the spring of 2011, the 'Arab Spring' has arrived in Syria as well.
The pro-democracy movement that protested the Assad regime for decades spread like wildfire in a dry field, and this democratization movement eventually escalated into a devastating Syrian civil war on March 15, 2011 finally.
Hundreds of thousands of innocent people have died as a result, and more than six million people have fled their homes and are living as refugees in neighboring countries and parts of Europe. There are also over 3.5 million Syrian refugees living in Türkiye.
In the land of Türkiye, which God had transplanted, we could not turn away from the faces of refugees who “meet a robber” and cried for help.
For those who lost everything at the crossroads of life and death and had no choice but to run away from their hometown naked, someone had to become a ‘Good Samaritan’ regardless of religion or race.
